Good for you! Funny how an equalizer of one sort or another will make tough guys not so tough anymore.

Pukes lose most if not all of their intent when the potential victim lets them know he ain't gonna take a gut shot and roll over. Good on ya.

That's what drives me crazy about a lot of movies- predators don't like prey that bites them back.

Five against a four inch blade, my money would be on the thugs. Five against a big burly kilted guy with cane and a knife? I'd put my money on the big burly kilted guy with cane and a knife. Certainly did mind**** these five. Way to go.

I'm glad to hear that you're ok, and that everything worked out ok. You're lucky they didn't see you removing the sgian dubh as a challenge though. Everyone will have to be very careful with this thread or it will most likely get locked down.

Again, I'm glad things turned out for the best.

"Your honor the guy in the kilt drew his knife and I had no choice but to shoot him in self defense"

    Something to think about.

"He was some weird guy in a kilt. We were just there minding our own business. Suddenly he draws this knife and starts coming for us. I told him to drop the knife but he kept coming at us. I didn't want shoot but I had to. He drew first, just ask my friends."
Your posit of an unfavorable outcome sounds like an argument for nonviolent pacifism, perhaps in keeping with your choice to wear a comb or bottle opener that has the handle of a sgian dubh. That the story teller chooses to wear a (customary) weapon with his kilt suggests that you two might not share the same philosophy.

The higher the payoff, the more likely someone is to risk bravado. Or perhaps it wasn't bravado at all . . . something the story-teller knows and shouldn't tell.
