Saturday my wife and I went to the Highland Games in Arlington Texas. This was about the 5th year and I am use to doing a lot of walking and looking. I love looking at all the tartan and some of the 'premade' kilts but I never find an 'off the rack' because well, I'm not an 'off the rack' kind of size. Short legs for my weight (you know what I mean!!!).
As we were heading on the way to the gate to leave I decided to stop at the Geoffrey(Tailor) Kilts tent and grab a new set of kilt hose. While I was looking through the kilt hose my wife was thumbing through the small rack of 'premades'. As I was checking out she pulled a kilt and pointed out that she loved the tartan. I said it looked nice (but I really was not too interested). She then told me it was the International Police Association tartan. This caught my attention. I was a Police Officer for 18 years and now work at a PD in a support function. I got closer to her and she turned it to me and it was pleated on the strip (one of my favorite). I looked and it was not my size and I handed it to her to put back. She then pulled a second kilt and said "What about this?" You guessed it. Exactly my size and length!
On top of that it was marked down almost $100.00. I was told it was made as a group for a pipe band but it was suppose to be on the sett an not the stripe so they did not sell it.
After some internal debate (seemed like forever but only about 10 seconds) my wife pointed out....How many times do you find a tartan that looks this good, made on the strip like you like it, in your waist size and length PLUS $100.00 off the original price...
Yep...it was destiny!
