I would do it, Greg. Even though you don't like this particular musical, I think that you being in it will make it a better production than it would be without a piper. Also, by being in "Brigadoon", maybe by the end you might not dislike it as much. Besides, it might be fun and you'll make some $$$!

Back when I was in High School (in the Dark Ages), we did Brigadoon as our Junior class musical. I was in the pit orchestra, and the piper absolutly MADE the production.
Always support the local kids and their arts and sports. Go for it.

Plus in a few years a lot of those kids will be getting married and may need a piper for the wedding. How nice that they were once in a play with a piper and can give him a call.

Greg, go for the money. We all have to things we don't like. But like almost everyone else has said, you don't know what this will lead too. Beside that, I'm sure, with you around none of those kids will end up on the xmarks "Don't List".

I echo most of those above: do it. Who knows what opportunities will come from the exposure, as well as the fact that it will be another "feather in your cap." Have fun with it!!

Sounds as if most are in agreement you should take the gig since it is paying. If nothing else you can rescue a bad job and make it a better production.

I think you should definitely take the job. Not just because of the payday (though that may be reason enough), but also because it can be an opportunity to educate both the audience and performers in some measure. It may be directly through any advice you might pass along, or even indirectly, just by your presence in the production.

The dancing in Brigadoon, where I saw it, was absolutely amazing. Sometimes the female dancers are really really beautiful. @_@

I'd vote for do it. As you hinted at, see if you can get your proverbial foot in the door on costumes and help to lead them in the right direction. The high school kids will put their hearts into the show whether you feel that it is a good production or not. To them it would be a real boost to have an actual piper in the cast. I've built sets for several high school productions and the kids are always very grateful for the effort. Who knows, you might even get a couple of kilt converts for your effort.

Sure, do it! Our community theater did Brigadoon 3 - 4 years ago and it was really done well. I was doing the spot light then, and every time the piper played the funeral march, I cried. I knew it was coming, I knew they were acting, but it still made me cry. That is good theatre when you can affect the audience!
