Part of the decision should probably be the "tone" of the kilt you wind up getting. My Scottish tank in the Clergy is rather subdued compared to the Frugal Corner version, which appears rather electric in bright light. You can probably see the difference between Cephas' kilt and Nighthawk's.

I didn't really look that closely. There really is a huge difference, isn't there? I wonder why- is it the weavers or the different material or a combination of the two? Is the FC tartan just really cheap? I actually have two Clergy tartan kilts- one from Sport Kilt and the one in the picture. The SK kilt is the Clergy ancient and the one in the picture is the modern. There are differences, but so pronounced.

Searching for "clergy tartan" on a store like scotweb turns up a whole host of choices and if you add "clark" to that there are even more variations. From searching I would say that the FC is Clark/Clergy modern (STA 4527) (blue/black and white).

That it's the modern I can see- it's the same tartan (in essence) as mine. It's just such a different kind of weave that I was curious what accounted for the difference. And in truth, I like the ancient tartan better- it's not so busy- and I have been tossing around the idea of getting one from Scotweb. So you have anything from them? If so, how are they?

My pleasure. Glad to be of assistance. What did you decide on?

The modern is a darker tartan for certain and I must say I like the white stripes when compared to the green or blue stripes some clergy tartan's have. I like the ancient as well and have a scarf and tie in it.

I'm still in the process of deciding where to order my tank (and unsure which tartan I want it in) so I was checking out Scotweb. I haven't bought anything from them before.

Ah. I am saving the money to get a kilt from in the Wolfe family tartan- in my avatar- as that was my Grandmothers name. I want a Colorado state kilt, a Wolfe, an ancient Clergy, a McBride, a pony, a tricycle, a Red Rider BB gun... wait a minute. I'm getting caried away here. Never mind.
