I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I have a question concerning which tartan I should wear.. My Grandmother on my fathers side is a Buchanan, but my surname is Luke, which is a sept of the clan Macdougall. I want to get a kilt in my grandmothers tartan, because she is the one who has talked so much about Scotland and got me interested in all thing Scottish a long time ago. But would it be more proper to wear the Macdougall tartan? Or does it really matter? I know there are several general tartans I could wear but I really want to wear one from my ancestry.
Thanks for any help you can give,

We have another MacDougall on this board, and I'm sure he'll pipe in as well when he sees this thread. Aside from that, Welcome to Xmarks!

from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as others have said you can wear any tartan you like. I understand the desire to wear a tartan that you have some connection with so in that case I say go ahead and wear the Buchanan.

    Welcome to the Rabble!

from Sunny Southern California, just outside the back gate of Camp Pendleton!

I started out my kilted journey with the tartan of my Grandmother and it's nice to see someone else doing it too!

Ya don't havta be a Scot even.

I am German as far as I can tell with no real ties to Scotland that I can find. However, My late mother-in-law was Irish/English (Corbett) which is under the sept of Ross in Scotland. I wear the Ross Weathered Hunting in her honor. I also wear the Irish National Tartan to honor my wife's Irish heritage.

    Welcome from Northern Colorado!
I wear the Crawford tartan proudly to honor my Gandmama, as my ties to Scotland are most recent through her. That is a wonderful gesture, and I say go for it.
