Lovely tartan there Ron. I think I may see what the fees would be for that. I've been thinking of getting a kilt in the "Dress" colors - you know some predominate whites. That seems made to order.
Kudos to Kathy!

Thanks guys, I'm lovin' it.
It was a real leap of faith to buy the ancient red hose as orange hose. Like, if they're orange why aren't they called orange? But I trusted Matt. They're sort of "almost orange" and of course after each washing they fade a bit and become a bit more orange. I was afraid of a "canary legs" look too.
In an effort to avoid politics, I'll just say that I agree with the work of the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust that sells the tartan so the kilt is a very meaningful one for me. I had hoped it would be a conversation starter. But when I wore it yesterday to a social gathering no one said a word. They're just used to me in various kilts I guess.
For those who have the desire, but currently lack the funding, remember that Kathy Lare, and some other kiltmakers, work on a two payment system. In Kathy's case she accepts a deposit to begin ordering in the fabric and sewing up the kilt, then she takes the balance upon completion before she ships. An act of faith for her too, but it helps make her hand sewn kilts financially available. While the fabrics being acquired and I'm waiting my turn then while she's sewing I'm saving up for the balance. Works for me.
I'm pretty sure some other kiltmakers have similar financial arrangements, just not sure which.
And for sure much thanks and credit to Barb T for introducing this meaningful tartan on this board and showing this pleat pattern...though for some reason I had the urge to switch to the sett, but by the time I emailed Kathy about it she was already sewing it up as I'd requested. I'm glad I was too late with that change since it looks great.
And, for sure, the Antarctic tartan is one that is much more striking and beautiful in person than what you can see in a pic. The colors are perfect and seem to leap out of the tartan at the viewer.

Ron, I don't know if it's me or my PC or what, but I can barely see any detail in your photos which seem unusually small for you! I certainly cannot see any tartan detail, which is a great shame as I too remember with admiration the photos Barb posted a while back. The one thing I can see is the red of the hose, which to my eye overpowers the colouring in the tartan but, knowing you as I do, I guess you are carrying it off with aplomb. An excellent charity to support too. Well done.
Take care,
Ham.

Aye Ham, You're right. I screwed up. New camera takes huge pics, new photo management system. I screwed up and reduced the pics before I cropped so the result is smaller and less detail. Of course I deleted the big ones so couldn't go back and do it better. Hope to shoot some more this afternoon. With this new Canon Digital Rebel I feel like an astronaut in basic training trying to figure out all the ins and outs....I do so love/hate the learning curve.
The tartan has orange and yellow in it and the attempt is to match the orange hose with the orange of the tartan. Gonna do navy hose with orange traditional garter ties next attempt.

Oh, I know! I have been on that since I first touched a computer keyboard - I'll never get the hang of it, I know I won't!

I think that will be a far better choice Ron - but that's just my opinion. Looking forward to the results of your re-shoot.
Take care,
Ham.

Better Pics of the Antarctic Tartan Kilt
Okay, here you go guys. This time cropped large then reduced less. Hope it ain't too big for the site.
The sun kind of blew out the thin yellow and orange in the tartan but on the pleat shot the wind shows the white of the underpleat when its pleated to the stripe this way.
That's Freelander Sporran #4. Also, navy Lewis kilt hose and ancient red traditional garter ties from the Scottish Tartans Museum.
The white thing behind my right shoulder is the Page High School "P" painted on the mesa.

The drooling will short out my keyboard... This will always be my favourite riverkilt kilt Ron. Congratulations it's gorgeous. I should get the Antarctic tarton in honour of my wife the Ice Queen, oh and the frosty reception I'd receive with yet another new kilt...

Dang Ron, that pleat shot in the wind is why I want this tartan. Your starting to kill me...
However, the wife is softening.... She liked the pleats shots as well.
