Other than bible study and kilts, my interests include computers and operating systems. I have been using computers since 1983 and building computers since 2001. I have been using Linux since it became my primary operating system in 2001. I also manage computer systems for friends and local businesses.

I'm into colonial, frontier & French & Indian reenacting. History, music, reading, travel (involving all of the above) and learning about green homesteading in Alaska. I enjoy firearms- modern military & blackpowder. My family likes to go to festivals and camp. We will be doing more things in Indiana.

Mine is music, both recorded and live performance as often as I can afford it. My early cassette recordings date back to 1972, and as I don't play them any more, am always on the look out for either the good condition vinyl or cd. I enjoy going to music outlets and fairs. MP3 just wouldn't do for me. I'm still an avid user of the ill-fated minidisc, and have around 200. I welcome anyone who would like to PM me on discussions on music.

COOL!! I was planning on joining the 5th RIB, here in KY not too terribly long ago. Tim Torey has been bugging me to join. Sadly, I have had so much come up. Besides, my wife says I need to cut out some of my hobbies.

Well, for starters . . I LOVE history. For many years, I have been studying American history, from the Colonial period, through to the Civil War mostly. I educate others about medicine during the Civil War, through a costumed portrayal (reenactor) of a Federal Assistant Surgeon. I also love reading and studying European history, from Ancient times through to the Renaissance.

I also collect and study rock and mineral specimens, to include fossils. I am currently working on my Bachelors in Geology. I also cave . . yep! I am a Caver. I explore, survey and study the underground environments. I am also a collector of and, shoot antique rifles. Below are a couple of pics of me in a couple of my interests (alright, just a "few" pics).

This is me "posing" at Fort Duffield, as an Assistant Surgeon.

I tried my luck at having a period photo taken 2 years ago.

Here I am teaching the kiddos what to look for and, how to find certain fossils and rocks.

I am "attempting" to carefully remove a geode that someone else had already broke (this is a pretty geode and, one of my prized possessions)

Garnet var. Spessartine¸ Smoky Quartz & Microcline Feldspar - from the Fujian Province¸ China (one of my other prized possessions in collection)

Crinoids stems from Central Kentucky (from my collection)

Here I am "on rope" for my descent. Yes, I hang from a rope (usually, inside of a cave though :mrgreen.

I am descending down to the cave entrance.

Here I am, inside "Raymond's Cave".

My wife and I are Advisor's for a coed Boy Scout Venture Crew (which is part of the old Exploring program). We are pretty active with the BSA, and the Philmont Staff Association. I really enjoy wood working although I don't get to do enough of it these days. A day on the lake in a kayak is sure a nice relaxing way to spend some quality time, but it competes with backpacking on occation. Right now we are preparing a group of 20 scouters to go backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico next summer.

My wife, stepkids and I usually take a couple vacations a year rockhunting in Utah, sw Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, or Oregon. Have a 24" saw, custom heavy duty rock tumbler, and just bought a faceting machine. Absolute best time ever was walking on "fresh" rock in Hawaii Volcanoe National Park, maybe 10 minutes old. #1 on bucket list is to do it again.
Also have built/flown many model airplanes that led to a private pilot certificate.
Scuba dive, rock climb, waterski, etc. Just got back from a kayak trip. I do a little of alot of things.
Homebrewer, make a yearly trip to local beerfests. First yearly vacation put in for at work is for a beerfest.
And currently heavy into bagpipes, which eventually led me to this site. Next weekend is a trapshoot.

    Oh goodness.... my interests.....

I am a website designer in my spare time. I write as well and have been in the progress of writing two books. One being goth / horror , the other Regency England. I'm a history buff and I am active in a non-profit organization called the Eidolon Foundation. I am also involved in the Clan MacKinnon Society.

I also make jewelry, do embroidery, photography, and read. This is separate from the Highland Games that I attend.

    I'll share my poetry.

    The Window

She stood at the window looking out
To a world covered in snow.
Beyond was a pond frozen over
With children skating to and fro.

She remembered when she skated like that,
With the wind whipping in her hair
When she was a care free child
And life was so simple and clear.

She stood at the window looking out
To a world coming into bloom.
Beyond is a tree filled with blooms
And young lovers sitting beneath the branches.

She remembered when she sat beneath
With John her husband since past.
The world was filled with love those days
Those days when he ardently woo'd.

She stood at the window looking out
To a world filled with sunshine and cheer
Beyond there is a park with green tables
And families have gathered to play in summerday games.

She remembered those days with her children
The days of frolicking in the sun
The nights gazing at the stars
Those days of endless summer and cheer

She stood at her window and looking out
To the trees in her yard that had burst forth in color
And the children beyond skipping away
Their cheeks pink from the wind that blew that day.

She remember those days when she skipped too.
To come home to mugs of hot chocolate and cider.
The evening to carve the great big pumpkin
The excitement of going door to door

She stood at the window looking out
Then she turned to find her bed
While infirmity of age kept her from joining in
    Her heart and memories did.

I have many interests, beside kilts. Alas, most of them cost money, which make me perpetually broke!

I play guitar (fairly well) and a few other instruments (not so well).
I collect books and music (especially vinyl).
I grew up in the country and spent a lot of time hiking. I still enjoy it but don't get as much opportunity these days, as I live in a city.
I still play Dungeons and Dragons once a week! (Yes, laugh if you will! ) My friends and I only play 1st Edition AD&D (from the '70s and '80s)
However, my interest that supersedes all of that would be my three-year-old daughter. No amount of time could ever be wasted with her.
