I had a pair of electric clippers and used them for the same purpose on a few wool sweaters. It never worked the same afterwards! You can buy a fairly large-sized Fabric Shaver at Mall-Wart or any other shopping place of choice. The one I bought runs on batteries or a DC 6V and works really well. I think it cost around $15 and I've had it for a couple of years. You can find them in the same section with fabric steamers and irons.
