I'll have to agree with some of the others here. I'm retired Navy and feel that official military emblems should be earned through service. However, that is just my opinion and this is a free country.

I am Army but I think the EGA shouldn't be worn unless you are a graduate of a MCRD. I know i wouldn't like seeing a non soldier wearing a ARMY eagle. But thats just my opinion. That said I do like the Tam.

Just repeating what others have made clear. The EGA is special to Marines and should be treated with respect. That said if you were are a current or past Marine wear it with pride. The color of the backing you show is a bit questionable. I would go for something closer to a Marine color. Red or blue or camo.

Hi Warlock,
I am sorry to say the EGA and silk rosette doesn't look proper or it is out of place on the knitted tam. I would suggest a sprig, flower or plant badge on that tam.
If you are or were a U.S. Marine, God Bless you and thank you for your service!
Military Badges look better suited on a Balmoral or Glengarry and they have a Clan Badge the has the EGA in the center, if that's would look you are going for.

I agree with everyone else. You have to tread lightly when it comes to the EGA. Marines are protective of their Emblem that we worked hard for.

The first original quote does say it best. The tartan is one thing, the EGA is another! If you are familiar with any of the Marine motto's you will recall the one that says everything is earned, not given. The EGA is something every Marine has earned and is not really welcomed by others to wear casually. There is a bit of a code that goes with wearing it for anyone who isnt a Marine. If you have close ties to a Marine such as a Loved one who has gone to Glory, then wearing there EGA, Medals, and or parts of their uniform as a sort of rememberance is one thing. If you are a civilian and wanting to show support then wearing that particular device would not be wise. Maybe with a support ribbon or rememberance ribbon would be ok. Now, if this is something you are going to want to make available to Marines and Marine families only, then you may have better luck. But as said before, it does give a WWII auora. I think you have a great idea that just needs to be tweaked a bit more.

For me, I just don't care much for the hat. The rest of the rabble summed up this Marine's opinion.
