    Lake City Highland Games

Thank you for participating in the second annual Lake City Highland Games. This document contains useful information for participants at the games including directions to Lake City and the throwing site, hotel accommodations, and vendor information. We are looking forward to seeing you at the games!

    General Information

    North Central Heavy Athletics

    Date: Saturday July 26, 2008

    Time: 9:00 am Start

Location: Lake City High School Athletic Field

We plan to throw all 9 traditional Highland Games events including Open Stone, Braemar Stone (which will be thrown with a shot), and Light Weight for Distance, Heavy Weight for Distance, Weight Over Bar, Heavy Hammer, Light Hammer, Sheaf and Caber. We also plan to have a tug of war event during the lunch break against the local mixed martial arts fighters.

    Directions to Lake City:

    From the North (Twin Cities)

Take I-964 to I-35E, follow I-35E until the exit for Highway 52 South on the left. Follow Highway 52 to the Farmington/Red Wing Exit (exit 240, Highway 50) Go toward Red Wing which will be Highway 50. Highway 50 turns into Highway 61 after 11 miles. Follow Highway 61 South through Red Wing until you arrive in Lake City.

    From the South (Rochester)

Highway 63 North will take you directly into Lake City.

    From the East (Wisconsin)

Bridges over the Mississippi are found in either Red Wing or Wabasha. If taking the bridge from Red Wing, travel South on Highway 61. If taking the bridge from Wabasha, take Highway 61 North.

    From the West

Highway 19 leads to Red Wing. Follow Highway 61 South through Red Wing until you arrive in Lake City.

In addtion to the normal festivities, a local Mixed Martial Arts promoter has issued a tug-o-war challenge to the HG athletes. Well, "I" think "we're" more than a match for them. But the proof will be in the pudding.
