During the day, treat your kilt like jeans. If it looks good in the mirror, you're fine. The kilt police don't come out 'til night (unless it's something really goofy like pleats in the front).

Unless you are over 35, then treat your kilt like khaki chinos...

I'll second that! ![Razz](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
Also, no one has yet mentioned the style threads. Casey...look at the "Casual" and "Dressy" photo threads and you'll see lots of examples of what we're talking about.

Match your leathers is always a good policy, and most folks avoid tall hose and flashes while wearing boots....that's my $.02.

I wear a plain black leather sporran with my boots. And I don't even wear hose flashes when dressed in casual attire. I've never had any complaints yet.

Just to further reinforce what the others have said. Boots are good for casual, but I would only wear them with a tee shirt rather than a polo shirt or a dress shirt. And go for the oatmeal colored hose. I personally think white looks strange with boots.

Let me add another vote to wear your black boots, and to wear black belt and sporran with them. I would say black or brown leather is fine for casual wear, but black for formal wear. Boots would be fine with a t-shirt, polo, or sport shirt; dress shoes if you plan to wear a tie.
In the end though, it is you who must be happy with your look, as others have said let the mirror be your guide.
Post some pics when you get it, and you will have no shortage of opinions.

Welcome Casey,
Play around when the kilt comes in. Here's a Macdonald tartan SportKilt with hiking boots, works for me.

And, some of us have been know to wear our kilt hose pulled up to the knee and with flashes while wearing combat boots...Kilt is USA Kilts Macdonald in Semi-traditional at local Veteran's Day parade.

Bottom line, push the envelope, find what YOU like.
