My (admittedly limited) experience is that a kilt does not need a pattern per se, such as a shirt or frock coat does, it is basically a simple garment, in the sense that it is a piece of fabric pleated to fit.  The devil is in the details!  Suggest you get a good book on the subject, such as Barbara Teweksbury's (link follows) http://www.celticdragonpress.com/ study it and go from there.
