Barb Tewksbury had it woven for my next kilt, which she is in the process of making right now.

Seeing as how I don't have much of a clan affiliation, and it's important to some people that we have a connection to the tartan(s) we wear (setting aside the multiple tartan debate), I dug deep into my family tree and found a McCrary five generations back: my father's father's father's father's mother. Going purely on armchair genealogy and nothing more than speculative conclusions about the origin of the name (for there those particular roots have been pruned), I decided I liked the tartan well enough to have it made up and made into my second Tewksbury "tank."

And at last I will be able to say to the kilt police, "Why yes, I do have [surname] here on my father's side!" I'm not obligated to say how tenuous the connection is, am I?

So, I know it's not a tartan for everyone - which is really sort of the point. It's not easy being me, ya know!

    Regards,
    Rex.

    Barb says about 6.25 inches.

Yes, I saw it a little less vibrant originally, too, and in one rendering of the tartan, it came out looking almost coral red. I asked for more brick-orange, just to be on the safe side. After looking at the rendering and the scan of the final result side by side, I've decided that I don't think the difference is all that great and the net effect will end up being pretty close to what I was expecting in the first place. I was really happy when I saw the photos Barb sent me.

If I were to do a weathered or ancient version, it might look something like this:

    Regards,
    Rex.

I may be "different" based on the negative responses on this thread! But, then again I like the "Loud MacLeod" and the Buchanan tartans. I like it Rex! Can't wait to see pics of the finished product!

    Congradulations Rex!

    Gasp! Barb's making it. It's a Tewksbury!!

    Glad you found your tartan.

OK, last opinion poll on this thread, and maybe the last set of images.

I'm thinking about having a jacket made for this kilt. Matt Newsome offers some very nice tweeds. Here are the ones that I might consider in a jacket:

    They are:

    Indigo
    Petrol
    Lovat Blue
    Moss
    Muted Brown
    Terracotta
    Burgundy

    Which would you recommend?

    Thanks,
    Rex.

Rex, I for one think that it is a beautiful tartan. No doubt that Barb will make it into a first rate kilt.

I like the Moss to go with the tartan, just my taste I reck'on. Then again, I'm just a Carolina Sandhill redneck; what do I know?

Wear it loud, proud and with gusto!

Looks somewhat similar to the Rainbow Tartan-which I really like (Frugal Corner or Stillwater pay attention!) but has less yellow. I think it's quite fine.

That's a tough one, Rex. Those all work equally well with that tartan. I would probably go with one of the blues, or even moss, because those colors would work with more tartans... But then again, that tartan with either Terracotta or Burgundy would make quite a statement. You'd never get lost in a crowd-even a kilted crowd- with that combo!

6.25 inches is good news . The kilt will look great.

Lovat Blue is practical hose wise... so is the Moss.
