Welcome from Mississippi! Feel free to wear any tartan you want. There are several "universal" tartans such as Black Watch, Royal Stewart (or any variant such as Black Stewart, Green Stewart, Grey Stewart, etc.), Irish National, Scottish National, etc. If you like it, wear it with pride and respect and no one can object.

Welcome from just east of you in the highlands of North Carolina.
Sounds like you are the perfect candidate for a PV kilt. Polyester/viscose blend is washable, looks great, and is cool enough for central TN summers and warm enough for middle TN winters.
USA Kilts is a great place to start. Check out their casual line, and choose whatever tartan strikes your fancy...no one will be "upset".
Don't miss the "Casual" photos in the Pics forum to see a variety of "daywear" looks. Most folks stick to brown leather accessories for daytime / casual occasions.
And when you're ready for a "tank", Tennessee has a state tartan (and it's a great looking tartan, too). You'll only find it in wool, however.
Welcome to the addiction.

Thanks T.H. That sound like just what I am looking for. I think I am going to put my first order in Wedsday morning. That PV kilt sound like a great first timer kilt.
