There are a number of wonderful kilt makers out there, check some of the vendors on this site. Use the search function and you can find reviews on just about all of them. We're not shy on this forum...but rather than flame, we try to be very constructive in our reviews. You'll find we're a civil lot.
If you're not in the military, you might not want to wear a military tartan. There are those with strong opinions on that. However, I might wear a Navy and/or Air Force tartan to honor my father's service.
Other than that, go with what you're attracted to. There's hardly anything wrong with, I really liked this tartan.
If you're going to wear one camping/hiking, you might want to be sure you get something sturdy and washable.
I've found the answer to just about all my kilt questions using the search function, but don't let that stop you from posting and asking. Some answers may change over time.
Finally, from both southern US coasts!
