Can't wait to see the finished kilt.

I like the moss for the jacket, it would pick up the green and blues very nicely and contrast well witht the other colours.

From those choices, Moss is the best match IMHO.

Rex, advice from a blind guy on jacket colors... Go with a color that looks good on you first, then goes with the kilt. Is moss on your color chart?

Believe me, I was forced to wear bright orange and bright yellow a lot when I was growing up, and it was just wrong. The best advice I ever recieved was "Don't stand next to me, your shirt is too yellow."
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Lovat Blue, definitely...or the moss as a close second choice. Either offers a nice elegant counterpoint to the exuberance of the tartan. Actually looking at the choices again, the muted brown would be pretty good too. Personally I'd feel like a neon sign if I were wearing either of the reds with this tartan. Guess it depends on how you accessorize the rest of the outfit.

Too bad there isn't a regimental or rifle green. HOE offers a barathea wool in the rifle green that would look good.

The only thing about the greens is that green and red "push" each other...this is straight from colour theory...meaning that the red will look redder when next to a green and the greens will look greener.

The tartan is really gorgeous, and it will make a terrific kilt. In person, the tartan is not as bright as the pic looks on my monitor. Rex and I will post pics when it's done!

I'm thinking about having a jacket made for this kilt. Matt Newsome offers some very nice tweeds. Here are the ones that I might consider in a jacket:

    They are:

    Indigo
    Petrol
    Lovat Blue
    Moss
    Muted Brown
    Terracotta
    Burgundy

    Which would you recommend?

    Thanks,
    Rex.
Difficult to tell true colours on a computer screen, but I think I'd opt for petrol, before the prices go up again!

    Best Regards

    Scott

(Either the terra cotta or burgundy would be second choice-- just a bit of whimsical dandyism on my part.)

Rex I think having Barb make your kilt is a wonderful choice I have been very pleased with my Royal Naval Tartan that Barb did for me and would recommend her work to anyone looking for a quality kilt.

As far as a jacket I would say, given the choices that Lovat Blue or Moss would be your best choice

As for the Harris Tweed line I would go for one of these

Moss does look nice but I'd go with a slate greyish jacket. We are not wealthy enough to own one jacket for each kilt and the reddish hues would be just too much.

    Well, this is interesting.

A lot of folks have suggested "moss," which is really cool because "moss" and olive greens are among my favorite colors.

AND, I just noticed a bit of similarity between the MacCreary tartan I'm getting and this Ralph Lauren shirt I've had for a Very Long Time - so long the cuffs are frayed - but I absolutely love it to shreds:

Now here I've paired it with my navy Freedom Kilt, but it also looks really outstanding with my olive UK and brown accessories. I'm thinking "moss" now, too.

    Very helpful!

    Regards,
    Rex.
