    I don't know anything about Carse of Gowrie, but I have a thought for you: if you're intending on "purchasing" a kilt in the U.S., via your aunt, it'd be better to use an American kiltmaker, to avoid any tariff - if you order from the U.K, there'll probably be one.

    All other factors being equal, of course....

    I have ordered dozens of items from the UK and never been charged duty but once, when it was sent by FedEx. All others were via Royal Mail.

    Once again the term "teflon coated" comes up. That is a fabric finish, much like Scotch Guard (tm) from 3-M. It may even be the same thing as far as I know.

    It is an excellent add-on, as it makes most stains lift easily from the fabric, and if done correctly, does not make the material feel "plastiky".

    Since as reputable a mill as Marton Mills uses it, I generally would have no qualms on that score.
