    Tartan advice please??

    Hi there,

I am new to the board here and was hoping you experts could give me some advice on tartans!!

Does anyone know of a popular Scottish tartan that is similar in colour to the Irish "Co. Antrim" tartan?

My brother is getting maried in Ireland soon and himself and other brother will be wearing the Co. Antrim tartan. I have a little boy (almost 20 months old) and we would love to have him in a kilt too. No-one can hire us that tartan in his size and we can't afford to get a real kilt made - I was hoping to get one of the lightweight infant kilts but I was hoping to get one of the popular scottish tartans in similar colours that would complement the Irish one. It is so hard to tell when looking at swatches on the net, hopefully one of you can help me.

    Many Thanks in advance,
    wickedfairy

Welcome to the forum from South Central Texas! Matt Newsome with the Scottish Tartans Museum would be an excellent source I should think.

    Welcome to Xmarks!

If you are able to spend about $150, one option would be to visit.

and just go ahead and get him the Kids County Antrim tartan.

If that's not possible you can get an Irish National youth tartan from stillwater kilts for about $16.00

And they ship in about 2-3 days so you can have it in hand very soon.

    Good luck and welcome!

If you're looking for a baby kilt, Sportkilt makes a great one with a decent tartan selection.

Edit: After looking up the tartan in question, and comparing it to the tartans available at SK, I'd say the braveheart might be a pretty good match. Plus it's a small pattern, which is good for such a tiny kilt.

Otherwise, on the SK site, you can also go to their original model, and click on the tartan of your choice, and see an actual kilt as opposed to a little swatch, which can give you a decent idea of what to expect. I did this when shopping for a baby kilt for a friend.

Edit again: Actually, looking again, the all Ireland tartan is pretty good too.

Yes, SK has several options. I think I'd pick the Sport Kilt "Irish Clover" or go with the Stillwater Irish National. However SWK may not have one the right size for your toddler.
