Tie and bow tie pattern

I'm looking the tartan ties and all have pattern set diagonaly. Bow ties can be seen with pattern running straight.

Would it be wrong to have a tie with tartan set straight and with prominent stripe in the middle (like on apron)?

Up to you really. To be honest, I'm surprised I haven't seen it more as it takes less fabric that way.

That's the reason way I'm asking. With some tartan leftovers from kilt maybe I could do something, if I can make it stait and centerd on stripe.

The reason that most ties ( not just tartan ties ) are on the diagonal is that when tied it will lay flat against the chest. Ties cut straight seem to curl and twist. This I discovered after making a few of my own.

That is precisely why all ties are cut on the bias. There needs to be a bit of stretch to the fabric to keep them from curling (four-in-hand) and to stay tied! (bow tie) If you cut the strips carefully, you can join shorter ones to make the longer strip that is needed, and unless one gets the nose against the tie, would never be able to spot it.
