What about Clan MacDuck, Clan MacTruck, Clan MacDavis (you must be over 40 to get that one) or the Hawaiian Tartan, Clan MacAdamia?

My non-Tartan Kilts are different. Clan Destine is a good answer just because the person asking usually has never seen a non-Tartan Kilt and doesn't usually understand that there is such a thing.
Don't suffer a fool, but honestly educate someone who is simply ignorant.
Amen to that. I might also add that if it isn't a true tartan (fabric I picked up on a mill-ends table) I explain that too, and say I just liked the colours. I have often told my students that there is no such thing as a stupid question, unless I have just spent a lot of time just explaining it!

When they follow-up by asking if I'm Scottish, I usually tell people I'm Floridian or ask what race/nationality has to do with me wearing a kilt.

OK, an explanation is due to those who don't have sea legs.
When you navigate between buoys, you keep red on the right and green on the left. Oncoming ships will appear to have their red lantern on the right, and green on the left. Etc etc etc. Pleats in the rear and apron on the front.
