Interesting! This would be the Mitchell I'm guessing. Do you also share the others such as the Peeblesshire? Ancient?

    Congratulations!

I really went back and forth about joining my Clan before I actually did it. I'm VERY gald I did now. My concerns were'nt anything serious, just that typical Groucho Marx philosophy of "Why would I join a group that would have people like ME as a member?"

When I first got into Heavy Athletics, I sort of wanted something more to compete for than bruises and beer. I know it sounds corny, the first time I heard the announcer at the Games say I was representing Clan MacLaren, my chest puffed a bit and I think it made me dig down a bit deeper.

When I shreaded my knee and had to put the games on hold for awhile, I wanted to still 'serve' my Clan in some way. So, I volunteered to work our Tent at some of the festivals. What a GREAT time! Never knew it was that much fun. Got to meet a lot of people, laugh a lot and really injoined this part of the festivals.

I guess for me the Clan not only helped me with the genealogy exploration and connection jones, but also gave me something larger than myself to 'represent'---something to live up to.

I heard wise advice: Do enough that you can enjoy and not turn it into 'work'--it will keep burn out away.

So, If you come to a festival in Michigan or Ohio in the near future, swing by the MacLaren tent. If I'm there, I'll share a 'nip' with ya.--If I'm not there, I'm out on the field--so drink one FOR me.

Good on ya! If only more folks in the Scottish-American community would take this attitude.

    Regards,

Yep. Galbraith, Hunter, Mitchel, and Russell all share the same tartan. As for the different types, I am not sure. I would imagine so, because the design should stay the same, just subdued colors. But you never know.

Yep this is true. But it appears there are several tartan designs the Hunters use that the other three don't. The Peeblessire is one of them. Another is the Hunterston tartan. There only seems to be 2 that these other three use judging from Tartan Find and the pictures from those clan's home sites. Those are what I recently referred to as the Mitchell tartan (evenly spaced white lines) and it's ancient (lighter immitation vegetable dye) variation.

    Interesting stuff.
