Ghillie Brogues
I'm looking for a good, reasonably priced pair of Ghillie Brogues. I'm on a budget but I don't want a pair that's going to wear out in 3 months. Suggestions?

I have a pair of ghillie brogues I purchased on The Scotland Yard's time pay plan two years ago and they are still good and comfy, though I don't wear them daily.

Please make certain they're leather and not cost saving Corfam.
Otherwise, it'll be no bargain. Learnt the hard way. Corfam is a synthetic leather made by DuPont.
Its only bad feature is that you'll have a pair of shoes that are permanently 'new'.

Yes, very good point. The ones I bought needed a break in period and then they were very comfortable, leather does that.

Ghillies which are cheap in cost are going to be cheap in construction, too. If cost is a major factor, you're better off with a good pair of wingtips.

Penney's has two one Florshiem, the other a lesser brand, both comfortable. However if you feel you have to have the ghillie brogues, try this link. At least if they don't fit the return postage will be less.

You could check ebay or if you have a tartan shop near you see if they have ex rentals on sale.

I bought a pair from Celtic Croft in 2003. I have replaced the soles once. I believed I paid around $120.00 (a price I consider reasonable.) I found their ghillies to be as good a quality (and as comfortable) as the $200.00 Bally's I wore when I was in the corporate management game. I have put a lot of wear on my ghillies over the years and they still look good. Another plus for me with Celtic Croft, was they had my size in stock (I wear a 15.)
