Alan, I keep wondering about something on the Etons and the mess Jackets. Do you want the fit of the jacket to be a little bit small around the waist as in the jacket conversion advice?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Yes, the eBay link has expired; not surprising, considering that Alan posted it back at the end of March.
Try searching eBay for "Mess Jackets" and see what you find.

Spencer Jacket
Just talked to Tuxedo Royale in Toronto, Ontario and ordered a previously enjoyed Spencer jacket, the difference between the Spencer and Eaton is the shawl collar , I much prefer the notched style of the Spencer. The jackets are all wool and reasonable at under $100.00 Canadian. I was informed they have lots in stock however most are 40" and under chest size. Just thought I'd pass the info along.

The mess jacket/Eaton jacket should taper from the shoulders toward the waist. Hope that helps.

They're usually somewhat tapered, so guys who are rather stout around the middle may find that the jacket that fits their tummy may be a bit big in the shoulders.
Of course, if you're on a serious budget, which is the whole point of reading this thread......if you weren't you'd get a tailored PC.....you get what you can afford. And if you're buying something from online, you don't get to test the fit beforehand, anyway.
In other words, just go buy the bloody thing!
