    Kilt Hose I've Knit

Hi-I'm a Newbie here but thought I would just share a pic of the kilt hose I knit for my friend Tommy Hunt. These are knit from the Toirneach pattern found in the Winter 2007 issue of Knitty-online. I loved knitting these and they turned out very well-fit like a glove! I've committed myself to knitting him 7 more pair-yes, 7 3 Winter and 4 Summer weight, which I know I will thoroughly enjoy knitting and hope he will enjoy wearing-I love knitting kilt hose as it's not quite the same thing as knitting socks. These are knit in Paton's Merino Charcoal and are rather heavy, but that is what the pattern requires and Tommy seems to prefer this weight. They feel quite nice weight wise though-substantial!!

It looks as if I can't post a photo or link at this time. I'll try again when I can.

Thank you! I'm not sure how long it takes to be allowed to post pics, or maybe I haven't activated something...but I will post just as soon as I can.

I used to live in Fayetteville-way back in the 60's.

Yes, that did work for you didn't it!!! Thank you so very much for posting for me McMurdo! I suppose I am either putting something in that doesn't need to be there or leaving something out. I'll get the hang of it eventually. I use Flickr so hopefully that isn't a problem.

So yes...these are the kilt hose I knit! I've currently cast on Rhiannon, a sock pattern that is adaptable for kilt hose and will make a very nice pair for Tommy. They're fitted nicely in the calf and ankle and have a foldover cuff with a purl cable pattern. The pattern is by Cookie A. I'm knitting them of a Merino and silk blend sock yarn in a creamy beige color. The silk really gives a sock some staying power-not as easy to wear out in the heel and toe area.

I'm not quite ready to take on kilt hose for others, but I may be doing so in the future! I'm learning to knit on two cable needles as opposed to knitting on my set of 5 double pointeds which is all I know for knitting footwear! I hear it is much faster with the two cables and both are knit at the same time...which would eliminate the one sock syndrome. So far I have about six good patterns for kilt hose, plus numerous other design patterns that I want to try. My problem is having enough time to do the knitting and work the day job as well. But keep me in mind and I'll be letting you know when I am available for knitting kilt hose!
