    Need a Zip-Lock Kilt!

I imagine it wouldn't be wise to wear your kilt while zip-lining in Costa Rica! You wouldn't see anything because you'd have your kilt over your head, but the Howler Monkeys would get a free show! As for wearing a kilt in gay districts, I live near Palm Springs, CA. and I'm not a homophobe. I enjoy compliments, whether they come from a male or female. Now, if someone gets gross, that's where I draw the line, but I must say most guys have been gentlemen and are just truly interested in the garment. I don't think you should feel uncomfortable anywhere wearing your kilt, unless you are truly concerned about your safety. BTW, I'm sailing to England on the QE2 in October and I plan to be kilted...........we may have an international incident on our hands if I accidentally flash someone on the poop deck!

That's the unproven tale, Brian. I don't know if you can tell, but my face is sort of puffed up. I'm allergic to msg, which some vendor apparently used on some food I ate. I could barely get my boots off that night, my ankles were so swollen.

I'm with you there. After a 4 hour long drive with no A/C in 100 degree weather in my SWK standard, I will never again wear a trad kilt when I drive. my canvas kilt may be another story though.

Aye, but hardly used it for the hills and wanting to "aclimatize." Was sweating under my shirt, not under my kilt. Go figure.

1,NO SUCH THING AS TARTAN WOOL,SCOTS WEAR KILTS NOT JUST HIGHLANDERS

2, Scottish women dont wear kilts they wore frocks
OK, its a dictionary definition (though I'm not sure exactly which dictionary) not a statement of opinion about kilts. Of course it is imperfect, virtually all definitions are flawed.

Second, that was in a signature and has nothing to do with this thread. If you want discuss the definition of the kilt (something which tends to lead to nothing but trouble) you would be better off doing it in a new thread.

Third, please don't shout. It just makes you look angry and impolite, especially when you start with "you haven't a clue."

Fourth, traditional kilts are usually made from material with a tartan pattern of some kind, and traditionally, they were made out of wool. Wool with a tartan pattern: Tartan wool. I don't see the problem here.

Fifth, Americans wear kilts. Canadians wear kilts. Germans wear kilts. So do Kenyans, Colombians and Cambodians. We aren't talking about who wears them, but who wore them traditionally. The kilt originated in the highlands of Scotland, back when the highlands and lowlands were practically different countries with distinct cultures. As such, even though the kilt is the national dress of Scotland, it is entirely appropriate to refer to it as part of highland dress and highland tradition and highland culture.

Sixth, the second line isn't saying that Scottish women wear or traditionally wore kilts (though some do). I believe it is referring to the type of skirt that is most commonly seen as part of the basic schoolgirl outfit.

Seventh, since this is completely off topic, I wouldn't be surprised to see this little exchange moved or deleted by a mod. And that would mean I typed all this for nothing

    And finally:

    And back on topic:

I would not wear a kilt in a vacuum, a wind tunnel, or while showering.
