I have to say from my limited experience that yes indeed you will perspire moreso in a Montrose, than in a PC. I was able to find one on ebay at a great price, after looking for a year, and had the Lady Chrystal do up a jobot and cuffs. One thing to think about is when you would expect to wear the Montrose, as I see it most Black or White tie events that have anything to do with the Scottish Community are in the winter months so it may well be a good idea. Another thing is that if you do what I did and get separate jabot and cuffs you can wear an undershirt under the Montrose that will help.

Unfortunately there aren't very many true tailors around any more. Good luck on finding a pattern, then you could go to a tropical weight worsted wool, they look great, breathe, and have all the advantages of a wool garment with few of the disadvantages. I'll see what I can dredge up in the line of a pattern, but I don't think I have ever seen one for a Montrose doublet.
