Wearing a Fly plaid without pinning my jacket

TT, the original poster asked for suggestions in February 2005. I hope he's got it figured out by now!

The best weight to use is the "lead tape" that guys use on golf clubs. Many sporting goods and department stores stock this stuff in the Golf area. You should be able to stitch-in a couple "tack" spots to hold it firmly.

This would need to be inside and out of the wind. If you have the pocket, the weights will help there too.

What would be even easier to use are drapery weights, lead already encased in fabric and sold by the yard. Any good fabric/drapery place should have it. It would be a simple matter to stitch it to the plaid, then when the wife gets cold (seems to be their nature at formal do's) There would be no problem.

Take a small safety pin and either: pin the plaid to the jacket; or, pin the plaid to the epaulet.

I dont pin the plaid to the jacket at all. My plaid has enough fabric bunched and pleated far enough back from the corner to perfectly fit beneath my epaulet without much looseness, then is held in place simply by the wieght of the plaid brooch pulling down in front fairly balancing the weight of the fabric aft of the epaulet. I think it ruins the fabric to pin through either the jacket lapel or front. If the brooch is not enough weight to balance then perhaps sewing osme curtain wieghts into the front of the pleats might be an option, but I have never needed to.

What about those magnets you get at tool stores they are about1.5" diameter and 0.25" thick and they have a hole in the center. Sew one to the plaid and just put the other tied to a small amount off thread behind the lapel.
