Thanks so much for the info. For some misguided reason, I thought that dress sporrans were only fur and was a bit uncomfortable with the thought of wearing my day sporran. This will make things much easier on me.
Except for the deciding which one to get part.

I would recomond an imitation fur and silver mounted sporran. Here is a link to some at The Scottish Tartan Museum, run by Matt Newsome. It's also L&M made.. so fake or not it well be one of the best made sporrans you'll own. On a side note, can I ask why she's okay with the skin of an animal but not the fur, which after all, is just shaved off to get the plain leather?

In the past, all dress sporrans had fur. The all-leather dress sporran with a chrome cantle is a relatively new trend.

But it's not a dress sporran.. it's a fancy day sporran.. something you would wear with a Argyll day jacket, not a Prince Charlie evening jacket.

That is your opinion. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

"Vegan leather" sporran material
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but this seems like an appropriate place to ask the following:
If anyone has any suggestions for a good "vegan leather" material from which to fashion a "Rob Roy" style sporran, please PM me.
Thanks!
