Lennon, McCartney and Starkey (Starr is only a stage name) are all Irish names. This is hardly surprising as Liverpool has a huge proportion of ethnic Irish, although I'll admit that it is technically in England!

McCartney is a variant of McCarthy, BTW.

John was always proud of his Irish roots, he wrote a powerful tune entitled "luck of the Irish" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" his Grandfather, Jack Lennon was from Dublin, John also spent many Holidays in the Highlands of Scotland.

Paul Mc Cartney celebrated his Irish roots by releasing a tune called "Give Ireland back to the Irish" which was banned by the BBC,

as these are political tunes Ill let the matter rest and let XMarkers do their own research

heres a (Politically neutral) webpage that discusses Lennons Irish roots

    so were the Beatles Irish?

in so many ways, yes they were
