There are actually a few of us Cavers that go . . well, caving in kilts. I've been the only one not wearing kilt underground until recently. But, for the most part, everyone just wanted to do something different. This happens to be a groups of Cavers, united from several chapters of the NSS that, have some type of Celtic blood in them (be it Irish, Scottish, etc.).
Now, given the nature of our sport, we have to be cautious in selecting the caves we explore. We just can't fathom the idea of spending a decent amount on a kilt then, get it muddy. And cave mud is hard to get out. Most of our trips would be pretty much bunny trips, nothing requiring crawling or sliding through tight passages (border line to a "show cave").
