    I have, in the past used a heavyweight non-fusible interfacing instead of hair canvas and it's worked out well. This stuff is generally available at most sewing stores, but make SURE to get the non-fusible stuff (you can't iron it and thereby make it stick to the material).

    Yes, absolutely. And remember that, even if you don't iron it on when you're actually making the kilt, the minute you press the kilt, it _will_ be ironed on!! And you don't want that.
