Why not wear a swseater (jumper) with the kilt? It's a great look.

It does depend a bit on the part of Scotland you are trying to represent but, sadly, kilts are not likely to be a representative item of clothing. In the highlands and islands life for most, except for a few well-to-do landowners, is fairly hard and they are unlikely to own a kilt unless it is a hand-me-down and then they will usually only wear it to ceilidhs and the like. In the more prosperous Edinburgh & Glasgow areas people do own kilts but they will only wear them to special events, weddings, dances etc. & football/rugby matches of course. So to truly represent Scottish dress to your class I would suggest a pair of jeans or other suitable trousers with trainers, a top of your choice, preferably with a hood. but no hat unless you have a baseball cap to fit you. Sorry if that disillusions you but that is the truth of the matter.

Well, if it's -10C than the event is more then likely an indoor one and no one is likely to be outdoors for any longer than to come from their transport to the main entrance, so where is the need for a hat at all?

I was at the tartan shop the other day, they had both the fore and aft and the deerstalker, unfortunately they did not have one big enough for my big Scottish heid. If I get one I'll be sure to post pictures.
