Prince Charlie Jackett/Buttons. When you replace the buttons, you could use fabrick covered buttons, horn buttons, even wood. I do think a cheap plastic button would look 'respectible ' enough for this sort of coat, and its intended use; but that is the View of this writer.

I'm wondering if anyone has or has seen a modern replacement for the Prince Charlie? I am looking for a formal jacket to wear with my traditional kilt to a black tie event, but the Prince Charlie look with all of it's silver buttons isn't necessarily what I'm after. Looking at the history of the jacket it doesn't seem that it's changed much since it's introduction in the Victorian era. Meanwhile the dinner jacket and tail coat have continued to evolve over time.
Is there a modern version, or has anyone seen dinner jackets cut a high enough waist to wear with a kilt?
Hey Peel!
Here is a new option, and I hope you revisit this thread. The Wizard of BC at Freedom Kilts now has kilt cut jackets that are made in Scotland. You might want to PM him because you can pick and choose options and features and so on.
It's probably going to be difficult to find a wool Eton on line.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
