Clockwork John,
On both occasions last year when I went kilted to the school where I teach (inner city 98% Hispanic Alternative(Continuation) High School) I wore a shirt and tie, because I always wear a shirt and tie.
However, if it were for a special occasion, say a Culture Day, I would wear my tweed argyle, to dress things up a spot.
Good luck with your kilted outing, I have not gone kilted to school yet this year, new Principal who has a Viva La Raza attitude, since I'm the white guy I already stand out.
Cheers,
Marshal Moroni
