Here are some of the space and ancillary requirements we have found work well in the past.

A hall or large room approx. 15' X 20' or larger. (About the size of a 2 or 3 car garage.

One table for each participant plus two extras for the instructor and samples. The tables need to be able to hold the fabric for one kilt at a minimum.

Enough chairs to seat everyone including guests, visitors, & family that may drop in from time to time.

Electrical outlets and extension cords for the lamps and task lighting for each participant.

Good ceiling lights or windows to keep the room well lighted.

    Trash cans as necessary.

Then there are to ancillary things that make to experience enjoyable such as access to a restaurant, coffee shop, or other lunch place. The participants should be able to find lunch without driving an hour each way.

Other food outlets nearby for the participants to have their evening meals.

Some sort of tourist attractions nearby for family and friends to pass the day.

A pub, bar or other gathering place where a dram my be found. A good place for a Kilt Night is a big plus.

Then any other things which would make the experience enjoyable. If a Highland Games, festival, or fair were going on at the same time it would be nice.

Each venue we have found in the past has be different and unique. Each offered a different experience for the participants.

    Wait, what am I thinking?
I barely have time to organize my own life, much less a workshop!

Seriously, though - if I can come up with 11 of Steve's 13 requirements in fifteen minutes, someone more organized could do a much better job.

Of course, having it here means I wouldn't have to pay for travel expenses, or room & board ... Stop it! That's the kind of thinking that causes me trouble more often than not ...

Well, Philadelphia and New York are both within my general geographical area. I'm just wondering if cost would be prohibitive, though I have a few ideas for a venue. And what better entertainment could you ask for than the greater NY metropolitan area?

Honestly, though, there are hotels with banquet and meeting space all over the place. I couldn't officially raise my hand yet, but if there's interest in having it in the Northeast, I'd certainly look into it. At least Barb T. wouldn't have to travel far.

The mall my mom has a resteraunt in has a few conference rooms, one is quite large, (It used to be a clothing store) It is off the highway, has an attached hotel w/ pool, 2 other hotels across the street, major airport abut 20 min away, a number of nearby historical areas, parks that can be photogenic, Just north of the I75-I70 intersection.

I too am interested. I need to check around with the St. Andrews Society to see if we can accomodate. Maybe, check out "Great Wolf Lodge"...

    I vote for Nunivit.
Well if that's the case, how about Bozeman, Montana?

I certainly would! but probably not in 2009. My wife loves Nova Scotia, so I suspect she'd be open to being a Kilt Widow [tm] there.
