For several years, I went by a very Star Wars-y nickname... I used the same name all over the place (before that, various other fandom things). I started getting a bit burned out on it though and am not really that into SW anymore.
When I joined this board, for some reason for the first time since getting on the 'net, I just wanted to be myself. Probably to make things easy for meeting people. I know I have a heck of a time with my memory, so putting a screenname to a face and then to a real name? Aiiieee!!!! My memory's not that good!!

My middle name is McMurdo, and I think it works perfectly on this and other forums, I've also been known as Offramp on some other forums, Offramp was the nickname given to me when I was riding with a club.

Grew up on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. Always been a river person where ever I've lived....well, except Phoenix where the rivers are usually dry or flood stage. Live on the banks of the Colorado River now and enjoy exploring its tributaries. Headed over to explore the Virgin River this weekend - AKA Zion. I really enjoy the freedom of being kilted on the river so, Riverkilt emerged.

When I first got an email address in the 90s, I figured I needed something anonymous. I was trying several different companies at the time, and I thought anonymity was very important. And since I was the only kilt wearer in my immediate group of friends, I arbitrarily chose "thescot" on a moment's whim.
And since it's pretty easy to remember, I've stuck with it. People who haven't written to my in years will ask, "Are you still thescot@ . . .?"
So there you are. It fits. It makes sense. And it's my very own moniker.

"Clockwork" is for my love of classic science fiction, steam- and clock-punk, and dystopian fiction, and John is my baptismal name.

I thought about using some variation of my original internet nick, the Kosher Viking. I got that nick because 1. I am a kosher keeping Jew, and 2. Even tho the family name is Welsh and we come from near Wales, all the men have obviously had an admixture of Viking genes at some point. My brothers and I are all well over six feet, with reddish gold hair (well it used to be!), and look like Hagar the Horrible. But some how the Kilted Kosher Viking seemed a bit much, so I just used my name.

The Norse founder of the precurser to the Kerr riding family of the Scottish borders was in fact, too tall to ride the small ponies that were at hand and instead "strode ahead of his berserkers" gaining the name Kjerr the Walker. My family on my dad's side is still tall and the name popped into my head when I was registering for this board.

I left the Army as a Specialist. I really enjoyed my time in the Army and still look back on it as one of the great times in my life.
So I combined that with my first name since they don't get used a whole lot in the Army and I'm out now enjoying the civilian life.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear
