Excellent advice. I might add, if you do wash it, add a bit of hair conditioner to the last rinse, it will help restore some of the natural oils in the wool. Remember, wool is the hair of a sheep!

I am a fan of using a soft/gentle cloth soaked in COLD water to gently spot wash the kilt. A soak in cold water would be faster and more thorough if you require that...

My youngest is away for a couple of weeks so I have been digging out the back bedroom - finding out where all the towels, plates and cutlery were.

After a session in there this morning gathering up clothes for washing, I realised that I had not been to collect my new glasses.

    Ah.

Into the bathroom and find a sponge, put some warm water in the sink, immerse sponge, squeeze out, gently dab/wipe away the evidence.

An old trick but it works well, and the slight damping of the surface soon dries.

I personally would never allow dry cleaning fluid to touch my wool kilts. I don't want the natural oils washed out that make wool what it is--water proof.

Try these sights that tell how to wash a kilt:

I've washed wool a lot, and it always comes out fine as long as you use cold water and don't put any heat on it. And don't dry it in the sun. And don't use any goofy stuff to wash it.
