Callling all knitters

For those who dance and are familiar with the dances of John Drewery here is a pattern for hose that were specifically designed for him. The friend who sent it to me says he hasn't yet had time to knit them up to see what they're like and it'll be a while before I'm good enough to do it myself so I'm hoping that one of our experienced knitters here might have a go and let us have some pics of how they turn out.

Please note that sizes, dimensions etc are British not US!

It all looks hideously complicated to me but I expect the likes of String, Thistle Lass et al will consider it straight forward.

Am I correct in assuming this is a, more or less, standard kilt hose? Or, since you mentioned dancing, is this pattern for tartan (argyll) hose?

There's been a lot of discussion about tartan hose lately...hope springs eternal.

These are single colour hose with cables and wide ribbing, not multicolour ones.

The 4ply yarn used is not the US 4 ply which is somewhat thicker. English 4 ply usually knits at 7 or 8 st to the inch for jerseys, but for socks it is knitted closer, to wear better.

The size 12 and 13 needles are the ones normally used for socks, the yarn - a 60/40 mix is used for hard wearing socks, the usual mix is 80/20.

According to Yarnforward.com UK needles size 12 and 13 are US size 2 and 1 or metric 2.75 and 2.25 mm.

Thanks for the pattern. I shall look at knitting it up during the winter. I love Drewery dances, so knitting the hose should be a blast. For those of you with a lot of patience. I'll post the pics probably with the spring thaw - I"m just not saying what year.

Well, sine my wife is a HUGE fan of knitting and a HUUUUUGE fan of his dances I read this to her and informed her that the Kilt hose she was about to make me are on hold so that she can make me these. (Oh, how lucky I am.)
So I'm going to get the yarn and she's going to knit them for me hopefully in time for our St. Andrew's day ball.

Sandy will have new kilt hose for the ball, but not the Drewrey ones. Those will have to wait. He's getting the last ones that were posted. I forgot to check. Are we doing any Drewery dances at the ball?

I am thinking mine MIGHT not be ready for the ball but I have been waiting for new hose for almost a year, so I am going to just be a whiner

We are doing, I think, 2 Drewery dances at the ball. I love them. His dances are so interesting and fun.
There used to be a gal at the dance class who insisted they were written by computers and were not actually possible to do. Pah!
