Squeaky, though the D-rings on a small strap are how you attach a chain strap and some leather straps to the sporran, here's a small suggestion. When you make the keeper or loop on the back of the sporran, make it big enough for a regular, men's 3/4" dress belt to snuggly fit through.
You might not want to use chains all of the time. That way, you can just use a regular dress belt for day wear, and save your chains for dressing up.
