Looking for warm, inexpensive kilt hose/socks

Unfortunately, the weather is getting too d@mn cold where I love to continue wearing a kilt outside the house. I've looked around, but just from descriptions of some of the standard stuff on websites, you can't really tell if what you're buying will do the job.

Could anyone recommend where I should go for some not too expensive kilt socks or hose for winter. I don't care what they look like, I just want something warm and cheap.

I notice by your location that you "Live on Earth" perhaps if you told us where on Earth you reside someone local would be able to help you out. I was able to pick up winter hose from Hector Russell in Toronto last year for I think it was $10.00 they are all wool and live up to the name Winter Hose.

I agree 100% with McMurdo (emphasis mine). Unless you are in a witness protection program it is pointless not to include your location in your profile. If we, the members, don't know where you live how can we help you with the little things in life that mean sooo much? Like warm socks.

Yeah, ask the difference between cold in FL and OH or MI. I just started wearing my coat, which was handy since I saw a few flakes today. To me, thats where I think cold starts. (One of my personal quotes is "Snow is the gods' way of telling you it's cold out" )

On the other hand, my uncle's wife in FL would have started freezing around 60, and would be very unhappy to go out in this weather without a few layers.

Probably the warmest socks you'll find are Steve Ashton's Heritage Hose at Freedom Kilts. Not cheap but worth the price.

The Scottish Tartans Museum has several styles and prices to choose from.

Hamilton Dry goods has wool hose very inexpensive and very "plain".

And if you are up fro a little drive over to Rocky at USA kilts in Pheonixville, PA, they can take care of you also.

Wader socks can often be a great, warm buy. Something like this:

If they are high just turn 'em over. I have also lucked into Bridgedale wader socks on sale now and then, they are just about the warmest wool socks I have ever worn.

PS Thanks Wallace, I completely forgot about the Scottish Lion, I have several pairs of their "pipers hose"--they are plenty hefty and in colors look passable. Buy enough stuff and the shipping is free.

You can try soccer socks. Here is just one online example, but any large sporting goods store should carry them.

I've got sevral pair of the Bridgedale Soccer Socks that are wool and not synthetic and they're excellent. I've always been curious about those Cabella wader socks so your review has me ordering a pair to check 'em out.
