You have reconfirmed my opinion that corduroy is a superb fabric for day wear jackets and waistcoats. An evening jacket cut along the lines of an Argyll in black pinwale corduroy with ribbed or corded silk cuffs and lapels (and matching low cut waistcoat) would look smashing.

I will point out that this outfit was inspired by your suggestions here on the forum. That would include the use of a brown corduroy jacket, brown hose, and even the very light blue shirt. This jacket also has a matching corduroy waistcoat, as well.

I like fine wale corduroy jackets. They are more stable and rugged than velvet, but also have that rumpled, dog's ear hang to them.

I do have notes on this conversion that have been posted for quite a while now. At some point I will have pictures with the waistcoat and Lewis hose included. I think I will post the notes and links with those pictures.

I'll also write up the history of that jacket; it's almost as old as I am and was tailored in korea for my step father in the seventies.

That is an excellent outfit! Good on ye for putting it together. I have to say I really like the flat cap with it. Nice job.

(apologies to Jock Scot) I like the flat cap with tweedy outdoor outfits. There is a pic (or several) floating around of me on a Dumfries pub crawl wearing a kilt and a flat cap on some Burns Weekend or other. I wear that here often but I'll have to rethink that one for the upcoming Burns Weekend in January.

BTW, what is the tartan you are wearing? It looks familiar but I can't place it.

That is a tartan based on half the set of the Weathered Lamont tartan. It's a half Lamont rather than the full Lamont. I consider it to be a fashion tartan.

The tweed flat cap matches the tweed shoes I am wearing. This is, after all, the dressed down version of the outfit.

I'm just glad that the jacket looks all right.
