Wow! This thread has SO seen its day already. But oh well. If we're gonna get back on the "my two bits" bandwagon -- I would highly recommend several universal tartans as anyone can buy them without feeling somehow "weird" about wearing a clan that they aren't a part of. Of course anyone can wear anything for the lack of tartan police, but there are still many who don't FEEL that way.

What, nightstalker, black, green, saffron, black watch, and the abused royal stewart not enough?

Actually, I do agree, since on that list, only 3 are an outright tartan, I don't know just how well the tartan really appears on the solids, and of the 3 one is a dark black and grey mix, one is the tartan that is everywhere, and the third is just an unlucky one that pretty much got whored out as an archetype. (So abused...)

I agree with an earlier person about the American Bicentennial. Something nice, and patriotic.

Not really a color choice want, but it would be nice on their site if on the shop you could click on the tartan of your choice, then have it show you the items available in that tartan.

I have to pipe up on the Size Issue, I'd love to see some Shorter kilts from SWK 24" is a bit to long for me ( like 5" too long ).

    aside from that

    X-marks
    Maple Leaf
    Clergy

any of those would be nice.

Slightly OT, but perhaps one or another of our intrepid seamsters or seamstresses will do a photo tutorial on how to shorten a Stillwater someday.

I didn't even think of taking pictures -- my sister just shortened my new SWK Night Stalker 3.5 inches and said it wasn't difficult in the least.

I hope to order another soon. If one isn't up yet, I'll try and get her to take some pics at each step.

I second that. Just an inch less would be more accommodating if only offering one size.

I, of course would like anything from the Clan Cameron line up , except for the Lochiel Tartan. That is reserved specifically for our Clans Chief and his immediate family. If one wants to wear it, one must get permission from the Chief. Tis true ! If one is going to wear the proud garb of our ancestors, and keep with the traditions, one should not pick and choose which will be observed. It's a matter of respect and that is something sorely lacking these days. If I were to choose one, I would say the Cameron of Erracht Tartan, pleated to stripe. That would be one many could wear due to it's universal nature. So from a business stand point it is the best choice for a Cameron Tartan to carry. A heavyweight wool would be my choice. I read some mention about the length of the kilts you carry. I think you have yours standard at 24 inches. That's fine by me, my custom kilts are navel to top of knee 23 1/2. So I can deal with that. Other choices, I would have to also agree with others, Maple Leaf and Isle of Skye. Oh, and let's not forget the X-Marks the Scot Tartan .

One of the reasons Jerry is able to offer the great pricing that he does is because he has his kilts all made to one length. 24" is apparently a good standard length for most people and those requiring a shorter one can hem it.
It is possible to custom order from Jerry and get a shorter length but it can take a couple of months and these kilts are not returnable.

Luckily for you some has already done so! My lovely Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess did just such a thread a while back.
