We remember. Not just at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, but throughout the year. Canada supplied 600,000 soldiers to WW1 from a population of 7 million; 60,000 of them lost their lives before that war was over. I think John Babcock is the sole remaining CEF veteran.

When I was a lad, it was "Armistice Day", now in the US it is "Veterans' Day", but the message is the same. Since I live in a military town, we are very much aware of the sacrifices of those who serve. Their sacrifice must never be forgotten.

I will be remembering all of the brave lads and lasses of Her Majesty's Armed Forces on Sunday, and then my brothers and sisters in our services on Tuesday. Sadly, working on Tuesday, but someone has to keep the country safe!

It was truly my honor being able to work with the Royal Air Force and the Royal Marines Commandos.

    Veteran's Day Parade

We had our Veteran's Day Parade on Saturday....and we even had the area pipe band, the Desert Thistle Pipe Band, rocking the parade route.

I attended a Remembrance Day service at the air base I'm temporarily at in the Gulf.

Present were British and Australians. No Canadians though one of the Brits represented them in the ceremony, and their flag flew alongside the others. I was one of only 6 Yanks in attendence. It was a very moving service.

We had a pretty good parade here in Ithaca.

I forgot to pack a camera for my wife to use. But the weather held up for us and quite a few people turned out to watch.
We had three pipe bands in the parade.

The Broome County Celtic Pipes and Drums - They did a great job. Our little group from the post had the pleasure of marching right in front of them.

The Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band - I only got to hear them warming up a bit.

I didn't catch the name of the third but I did see them on my way to our spot in the parade.

Let us hope they are never forgotten and always remembered with the respect they deserve.
Since I couldn't get any poppies here in America I went ahead and got a foirget-me-not from one of the veterans here, instead.
However, I plan to start giving my Dad money so he can send me poppies each year.

    Poppies

The American Legion Auxiliary used always to have poppies in my home town. In fact, the local businessmen said that they could not walk anywhere the morning of the 11th without buying one from my grandmother.

I will have to check around tomorrow to see if there are any in evidence.
