Callling all knitters

Just wanted to pop in and say I'm going to give these a try at some point when I get the yarn... they look like a lot of work, but I'm sure they're beautiful, and I am a huge fan of Mr. Drewry's dances. I lived in Aberdeen where he is, and he wrote a dance specifically for an event our dance group put on there called the St. Machar Reel.

Both my SWMBO and I have searched everywhere we can think of to find this dance but to no avail. It's not in Minicrib or any of the other online resources that we're aware of. Can you PLEASE put us out of our misery, unaspenser, and share the words with us?

Well I have the yarn, but its 80/20 and as it happens nothing on my needles, so I will make these up and post when they are done, seems like the band is a cable, not my usual way of knitting but I will try anything......

My dear wife doesn't get on Xmarks much, and I can't find the programme from that ball in her collection, but when she gets home from work I'll ask her to send you a PM with the details.
Is it just the directions for the dance itself you need?

londonpiper, don't listen to a word Arlen says. I am here and I'm happy to help you with the dance. Might I ask where you heard about it? And what the heck a SWMBO is?

As an aside, I'm not sure the dance has been published in any of Mr. Drewry's collections. I was just lucky enough to save my dance program from SUSCDF that year.

That's short for "DW" in knitter's terms. It stands for She Who Must Be Obeyed, courtesy of John Mortimer's character Horace Rumpole (Rumpole of the Bailey).

I did a swatch of the cable band and it's really an easy-peasy knit and turns out really pretty too-I'm using my only stash of off white sock yarn! I figure Tom needs at least one pair of white kilt hose. I'm trying to finish up a project already on the needles this week, then I want to cast on for these as well. Hopefully I can get some progress made on them over Thanksgiving. It will be interesting to see yours! What color will you be making?

I wonder if any of you knitters have noticed that there is 3 picots after you lift the stitches from the cable of these socks, I am not sure how I am going to do hem this top, should I do it at first, 2nd or third.......

I'm hoping to cast on tomorrow at my knitting group. I haven't read the pattern yet, just scanned it briefly and swatched the cable for a couple of inches. It seems odd that there are three picots which wouldn't allow for the top to have those little castellated points (or picot), by making the picot row and folding over and stitching down. I may have to write my own directions for that part. Three picots seems a wee bit lacey.
At any rate, yours look as if they're coming along fabulously! I've decided to knit mine in the off white as well. I think this pattern will make some very nice dressy formal kilt hose.
