Ted,
Well, you're right and I thank you for pointing that out.
Now... if wishes were horses...
I wish I knew where to get about two yards of double-wide 16 ounce...heck, as long as I'm wishing let's make it 18 ounce...Strathmore Mills Lochaber.
Of course, then I have to square the tally with the pot. And the spirit with the flesh.

It'll work out.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Wilson's of Bannockburn is listed as the source, with a date of 1797.
The STA's notes state that the tartan may have been a Fencibles tartan. Fencibles were the Napoleonic-era equivalent of the Home Guard, with many companies raised across the British Isles in case of a French Invasion. A number of fencible units in Scotland were kilted.
Being a district tartan, a connection to Lochaber would be ideal, but I would daresay anyone could wear it.

Todd
Gee, my Clan Crest has a Lochaber pattern battleaxe on it. Does that count?

So that's what the Lochaber(pronounced Loch aah ber) tartan looks like. I have lived in Lochaber, one way or another, for 60 something years and have never seen it.

I am not being confrontational, but I am intrigued. Could you elaborate on the Buchanan connection with Lochaber? Please.

As a minor land owner in the Braes of Lochaber, I feel a close affinity to the Lochaber tartan. For me it is the Muted colours version that I find so very attractive - those in the modern weave being a little too strident for my liking.
Now then, where did I leave my Wish List?
Take care,
Ham.
