very nice! I haven't had much chance to read through or swatch at all yet, but I can't imagine hose with picots anywhere in them.

I had a look at the photo, and it does look neat - but I had assumed that the edge would be folded double, matching up the first and third row of holes and the middle set of holes would form the picots.
This could be because I do hems and mock welts that way, there is nothing in the pattern to indicate that either way is right, not that I can see, but it might decrease the lacy look and make it look a bit more chunky to have only one row of holes and the picot edge visible.

I was thinking it should be knit with one set of yo's and then folded over to make the picot top. I've made sock tops this way and other edging for knitting clothing like sweaters and jackets. If there are two rows of holes then I would have thought to fold double like Pleater said. I took a look at yours and they look great though. I am definitely making these, but I'm going to have to modify the picot edge so it's not so lacey.

I might do the same thing. To be honest, I almost always leave picot edging out when I encounter it in patterns.

I've used the picot edge on kid's socks and ladies jackets and sweaters but for kilt hose I personally think the one yo picot will make them formal enough. Also, since I will be knitting in off white, Tom will probably only wear them for dress occasions. My decision to keep the picot in is just to try to be somewhat true to the pattern as it is written....taking very few liberties with someone else's pattern until I've knit it once! Still, whether the double row is left in or not, they look like really nice kilt hose!

The instructions are to pick up through the second stitch in - that must leave a little flap on the back - is it feasible to sew that to the cast off edge and line up the eyelets and make the second row of them the picots?
I know I should try it myself, but I am trying to finish off a cardigan for myself now the cold weather is here, in a rush and decided to use a printed pattern, and it doesn't fit so I will have to redo the sleeves.
I almost always make up my own patterns but, for quickness I thought I'd not bother this time.
At least it is a raglan, so by redoing the sleeves I can make the whole armhole larger. I should have been suspicious when the fronts were too long to fit the sleeve seam.

I hate when that happens!! Hope it will turn out better on the re-do!

I have decided they are too lacy so am going to do some alterations, I will frog this piece and re-do, it just does not look right, I am just not sure about the picots. In the meantime I have picked up my dancers sock on the needles, this pair will take a long time to knit, all done by hand.

Do you knit your dancers socks from your own pattern or do you purchase the kit? I've read talk of and saw pics of the hose knit from kits (on another forum), but I've never seen pics of anyone's own pattern. Just wondering.![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Just went back to your Blog and read a few entries and was stopped short by the pic of your yarn stash...yummmmy! Very gorgeous colors and so many knitting possibilities! My stash is mostly fiber to be spun and I've had little time to spin lately. Also, the Harris Tweed...oh! for about 8 meters of that!! The blue is just exquisite!
