Is a bowler or a top hat something you'd wear when not in a kilt? Particularly the top hat?

Even Abe didn't wear his top hat very much... and before you knew it, people thought of him as that guy with a top hat. Lesson: you wear it once and people will be like "there goes that top hat guy." Kilts will be forgotten and kittens will no longer have milk.

If I had a top hat, I'd probably wear it with a Prince Charlie and trews... and a monocle.

Wow, this thread took an odd turn.
Ron, for what it's worth, I think you could pull off a bowler. Not sure you want to, but you could.

A long time ago, a friend (who wore hats of every shape and style and looked great in all of them) told me that hats were all about attitude. "If you think you look like a dork, you will. If you think you look great and carry yourself like it, everyone will tell you you do." Therefore, I have about three hats that I feel comfortable in, and I usually get compliments when I wear them.

I wouldn't be caught dead in either a bowler or a topper because I'd think how silly I look, and that would come across to people.

If you have the confidence to wear either (and from my short lime on XMTS, I think you are a very confident person), then go for it. You're probably going to look just fine.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!
