Sadly, venues/occasions must at times be considered for kiltfriendliness. It is good to protect stuff! but that being said- I wish you an enjoyable party-time.

I was never very fond of office parties, John, and I think, were I in your position, I'd make my apologies and not attend!!
Take care,
Ham.

No chance, I don't get out much as it is. I'm the main organiser of our outing anyway. It's not my work colleagues who will cause the bother. They are used to my kilt and are disappointed when I told them I'm not wearing it this year. The ladies are going cocktail dresses and wished me to be smart too. Had it been an hotel, I would wear it for sure.

I'd wear the kilt anyway. If your co-workers are worth a salt they'll keep the riff-raff from making a bad time.
As stated above Stand Tall and Kilted.
CT - accept no limitations
ps: get your money back on the suit and buy another kilt.

This is my first Holiday party at my new job. Lots of tales about what happened last year. I will stay sober due to cash bar. I will be kilted and my wife is wearing a dirndl. Company is based in Germany and my group is based in Austria. I just hope the kilt with Argyll goes with the dirndl.

Yeah, there seems to be some kind of popular notion that bad behavior is not only acceptable but mandatory. I guess that it makes life more like it's portrayed in the movies. Lots of suburban kids come into the city to play "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" all the time...except that it's not particularly funny, it's usually just rude. Ditto with enough of the drunk grown-ups (using the term very loosely). Sad...sorry that you've had so much trouble.
Best
