To my Scots eyes, you can overdo the tartan theme and tartan bonnets do just that. Sorry.

Picked mine up in June at the Royal Mile shop of the Edinburgh Woolen Mill----in a clearence pile of a bunch of inexpensive tammies and flat caps. Lucky, as I had just recieved my IoS kilt only a week before leaving for my Scotland trip.

Aren't these the same kind of cap that vendors (& old-timers) sometimes call a Carnoustie?

I LIKE it! Very nice! I might have to look into one for my bro-in-law, a golfer...it would look great out on the course, I'd bet!

Granted, I can see how the tartan theme can be overdone, but are you saying the tartan cap with a tartan kilt is overdoing it, or simply the cap alone, with no other tartan worn, overdoes it also?

I am not keen on tartan bonnets in general and I am not keen on tartan bonnets with the kilt in particular. Sorry.

Certainly no need to apologize! One opinion is just as valid as the next!
