I am sure that this is not an insult to the British, but I just do not understand what you mean by this. Would you care to enlighten this confused British man?

BruceK:
Was almost exclusively kilted for three and a half years. The only people that ever gave me "guff" were insecure cowards. Some people would ask about "the skirt" but there's a difference between uninformed and hostile. The hostile people? They were all insecure. Pity them. A signature line I saw on another board somewhere said "Try and understand people; everyone is carrying a burden you don't know about." Be yourself, be kilted, be calm. Oh, and the more you wear the kilt, the fewer jerks you're likely to attract, to boot!

Welcome to the club, Bruce. The only negative comments I have received have been from highschool boys in cars which had passed me without slowing. That's one of the "benefits" of living within 1/4 mile of a high school.
I think the fact that they do this only when they think they are beyond retaliation is actually a compliment to us.
Best wishes!

I'm referring to the revolution, where we had to fight in such a way to actually do anything against the better trained Redcoats.

They're probably too young to remember Braveheart (1995).

I agree with Rex and others up here who stated that they're just cowards.
Fortunately AND UNfortunately, kilts illicit strong reactions from people. When choosing to wear a kilt, we know that some people (by far the minority) will make snide and often cowardly remarks. Screaming things from a passing car or from a closing elevator? How cowardly.
We ALSO know that the overwhelming responses will be positive.
"It takes a REAL MAN to wear a kilt". There's a reason this sentence is so popular and adorns tshirts everywhere... it's true. Only those SECURE IN WHO THEY ARE can wear a kilt. Those insecure little boys (regardless of age, they're still 'little boys') are cowards.
You are one of us, the REAL MEN, with a higher level of self assurance.

Good point. The fact that they're scared enough not to 'say something' until their way OUT shows more respect for us than those that insult us to our faces.
Then again, those that insult kilt wearers to our faces usually have a bit of the 'liquid courage' to help them (Whiskey or lots of beer).
